I did put a note to that effect on the local Facebook page, but no one stepped up to say they were keen. It's a bit of an awkward location for pruning - it's on a moderately steep slope and the tree's quite tall - but hopefully someone else will step up! But, with the fertiliser, it's looking way healthier than this time last year, at least.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5683446064054569523.post-27797824535270955712023-02-10T13:50:22.273+13:002023-02-10T13:50:22.273+13:00We learnt with our feijoa tree how important it is...We learnt with our feijoa tree how important it is to prune... when we pruned lightly for a year or two then failed to prune for a year, the fruit got really small, and the leaves were looking unhealthy. We then pruned it heavily and the new growth is beautiful and lush, and the fruit is big again. I know some types of fruit trees don't really need pruning (like orange trees), but if the ones in Heron Park don't provide a good crop it might just be that they need pruning.Terrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5683446064054569523.post-88109034092799548982023-01-18T13:24:14.439+13:002023-01-18T13:24:14.439+13:00Very interesting information's on your experim... Yes, I agree, okara has no flavour - although when you ferment it, it gets quite stinky!

It will be fine in sourdough bread, I expect - it will probably make it ferment a wee bit faster, but shouldn't be a trouble.

Like you, I don't like waste! I mostly use it to make crackers these days - my recipe is here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jsko79w8gt1dn7u/AAAVTkl_IhvZdGweVjlB4G3Da/baking/savory%20okara%20crackers.txt?dl=0

Sometimes I also put it in cookies. I've been portioning mine off into 100g baggies in the freezer for adding to scrambled eggs or lasagna. I ran across this blog, because I wanted to know if anybody has tried adding dried okara to sourdough bread. I just dehydrated the last 200g I had from my last tofu production and ended up with barely 25g of okara powder. I think I'll just try adding it to my next sourdough; 25g is not that much of an inclusion to negatively affect he rise of the bread. It really has no flavor; kinda tastes like cardboard chips! I just hate waste; and this should add a bit of extra protein & fiber to the bread.YoBubbahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04323783616306894983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5683446064054569523.post-31993186633853583862022-06-09T01:36:56.793+12:002022-06-09T01:36:56.793+12:00Thanks a bunch, really enjoyed this knowledge. I've heard in a lot of instances the leaves, root of alot of fruit, and vegetables, plants and flowers, are edible, they just take on a more subtle or stronger flavour depending on what the food is. Ginger leaves are light and nice in salads, yam leaves are edible, so are sweet potato leaves. Flowers and tendrils of courgettes, and pumpkins. These are all foods we overlook, but they're delicious and feel oh so exotic when you incorperate the right flavours. I've always had a deep desire to melt peoples faces when they taste my food. I hate average, and I always have. So the use of exotic plants and flowers foraged, brings a new dimension to my cooking and opens doors to exploring the palate in a ways unheard of.
